Spokane Hoopfest 2012

First let me say thank you to all of the folks on that gave me feedback on facebook to help me find teams to cover at Hoopfest 2012 in Spokane Washington.  I wish I could have made it to every game but the enormity of the event, the large number of requests and the slow moving crowded sidewalks make that impossible for one person to do.  I was able to have every half hour game slot filled from 8:00-12:00 and was able to fins a good number of games to cover in the second round.

Here are a few photos from each team I was able to cover during Saturday’s basketball action, for the entire gallery of photos from Hoopfest and to order prints visit my website at this link: http://bit.ly/MqGUP9

Idaho State Girls Basketball Tournament (Day 1)

This week I am covering the Girls Idaho State Basketball Tournament for IdahoSports.com.   Photographing the State Tournament requires a lot of hours.  The drive to Boise from Northern Idaho requires a lot of hours behind the wheel, photographing at least 4 games a day requires a lot of time behind the lens and then after the games are finished the editing requires many late night and early morning hours in front of the computer.  State takes a large investment of time but the quality of play combined with the drama and emotion of the tournament is a recipe for a very fun and exciting three days of basketball.  Here are a few highlights from the games I covered on day 1.

Tri-Valley Titans (37) vs. Carey Panthers (46)

Nicole Gomez, Carey

Victoria Branch, Tri-Valley

Summit Academy Patriots (56) vs. North Gem Cowboys (27)

Nicole Wemhoff, Summit Academy

Shycole Simons, North Gem

Filer Wildcats (37) vs. Marsh Valley Eagles (66)

Sierra Koyle, Filer

Shaylyn Brown, Marsh Valley & Katie Hughes, Filer

Priest River Spartans (50) vs. Fruitland Grizzlies (48) – Double Overtime

Miranda Clinton, Fruitland

Ambrea Cuellar, Fruitland & Jill Weimer, Priest River

Karly Douglas, Priest River

Battle of the Buck 2012

Saturday was a very busy and exhausting day, the first 8 hours was spent photographing a wedding in Sandpoint after that I had to hustle to Priest River in time to set up my lights for the Annual “Battle of the Buck” basketball spirit games.  Weddings are a lot of work and with all that happens at the Battle of the Buck it is one of the more tiring sporting events that I cover, add those together on the same day and you have one sore shooting hand and one useless photographer the next day!  Thankfully it was worth the Battle of the Buck is such a fun event and I would have been really disappointed to miss it!

Here are some shots from the evening, there is also a link at the bottom of this post where you can see all the galleries from the event.

Cheer, Dance and Fans

Sandpoint vs. St. Maries 01/12/2012

Due to a few different circumstances I did not get all the shots that I would have liked to at these two basketball games.  I had an appointment that kept me from the first half of the JV game and then due to a medical condition by one of the folks from St. Maries I was not able to use my flashes for the Varsity game.  The quality is so much better when I can use my two Paul C. Buff Einstein lights, but every so often I have to return to bumping up the ISO to 6400 and grabbing some shots with the little bit of light that the school gym offers.  Here are a couple shots from each game as well as links to the entire gallery of photos.
