Sandpoint Bulldog’s Football Program

This year Steve Russo and the staff at the Sandpoint Newsline took on the tack of creating and publishing the 2012 Sandpoint Bulldog Football Program.  Steve and I are both sticklers for quality so when he contacted me about shooting some portraits for the program as well as for the upcoming September issue of the Newsline I was thrilled.  The inside of the program also features many of my action photos and for every home game they will be publishing a new program featuring one of my action photos on the cover.  Here are some of the published and unpublished photos from my shoot with the team.

We took a number of different vertical shots to give the Newsline plenty of options for the cover.  We did some individual shots. . .

We squeezed did a group shot with 6 athletes and Coach Puailoa

And a couple of shots with three of the linemen

This is the one they ended up using, minus the victory bell.

We also did a couple of old school shots and I processed them with a grainy black and white look.

We ended the session with a lineup of linemen.

If you want to see the finished product grab a copy at any Sandpoint home game or at any of the businesses that you would normally find a Sandpoint Newsline.  You can also check out the online version at this link: http://bit.ly/Ovu9CG

2012 W.N.R.S #1

Last night the 2012 Wednesday Nigh Ride Series began out at Farragut State Park.  As usual All About Adventures put on a great ride and I was glad to be there to capture some of the riders in action.  A link to the entire gallery of photos can be found at the bottom of this blog post.

I used a three speedlight setup for almost all of the action shots, I started out with all three set up in the same spot, here are some shots from that setup.

Then I decided to change things up a bit.  I kept one speedlight on a light stand for a front fill light and then used some Impact Superclamps to attach the other two speedlights to some tree branches and pointed them at the back and side of the riders to give a more dramatic light setup.  I missed a few riders as I changed my setup but I think it was worth it as I really liked the results.  Here is the setup:

The rim lights are easy to spot here, the fill light is on the right side on a light stand.

Now for the results, after a few adjustments I was able to get the look I was going for, a dramatic rim light on both sides of the rider to separate them from the background mixed with a nice amount of directional fill light.

The evening finished off with a barbeque put on by the Pend Orielle Peddlers and there were a lot of items given away in the raffle, as you can see below Ken from All About Adventures had a great time giving away a bunch of fun stuff!

The entire gallery of photos from this ride can be found on my website at this link: http://bit.ly/PTc7wB

Jeremy’s Senior Photos (Priest River Photographer)

I have a lot of fun working with Jeremy on his Senior photos, we had a beautiful Mercury Cougar to use for the photos and then took an ATV ride to a location overlooking the the Pend Orielle River.

Priest River’s 2012 Distinguished Young Women

The 2012 Distinguished Young Women program in Priest River featured 10 talented young ladies, all of which did a great job.  When the event was completed and the judges votes were tabulated it was Melissa Trost that was announced as this year’s winner with Steffie Pavey coming in as the runner up.  Here are a few photos from the event, for the entire gallery and to order prints please visit my website at this link:   http://bit.ly/InksRr

Megan’s Senior Photos – (Sandpoint Photographer)

Recently I worked with Megan to create her Senior Portraits, we started at her home and them took a trip to Garfield Bay to finish up our session.

In Megan’s back yard stands the playhouse that was build by her father when she was little, unfortunately it was used very little ever since the discovery of a spider inside many years ago.  We braved the risk of spiders and I set up a flash inside the small building as well as one outside aimed through the window.  Since the building as well as it’s furnishings were now very small compared to the now adult sized Megan I kept thinking of Alice in Wonderland growing too large for the house she found herself in.  The cards hanging on the wall, minus the Queen of Hearts, seemed quite fitting!

KCC Class of 2012 (Sandpoint Photographer)

The class of 2012 from my church, Kootenai Community Church, will be having a special graduation ceremony in June and they needed a photo of the group for the invitations.  Being spring in North Idaho scheduling a photo shoot with just one person can be hard, add in the often conflicting schedules of 5 busy seniors and you can imagine how hard it might be.  We ended up rescheduling our shoot due to weather or illness at least half a dozen times, but then by what some people would call luck and others providence we had a short break in the rain on a Sunday afternoon and we were able to finally get our photographs.  Here are a few from the afternoon.
