Bella’s Rainy Day Senior Photos

This last spring I had a contest offering a free portrait session and digital photo package, Bella won that contest and chose to have senior photos taken.  Bella is from Australia and this past year she was a foreign exchange student at Sandpoint High School.   There was not a lot of time between her winning the contest and having to depart the states to return home so when her session day turned out to be a rainy one rescheduling was not an option.  Instead, I put my Hydrophobia rain gear by Think Tank on the camera and we used some garbage bags to protect the flash and battery pack.  Here is a photo of my assistant Pete with our make shift rain gear for the flash.

Our original plan was to take Bella’s photos with some of the buildings, landmarks and locations that are well known in Sandpoint.  We were going to start at Scweitzer Mountain Resort, but the clouds were so low that we would have no worthwhile view so instead we just stuck to locations around town.  We started out using the Panada Theater as a backdrop, then locations with a view of the Cedar Street Bridge, City Beach Sign, Powerhouse and Long Bridge.

Taylor’s Senior Photos

Taylor is very no stranger to being in front of my camera, for the last two years he has been my main assistant for portrait sessions and weddings, this last year he was also a senior and we have been working on his senior photos the entire year.  Yes, we did have an official senior session this spring but we have also been building up his senior photo portfolio here and there through out the year.

Here is Taylor hard at work during our senior session with James

Let’s get on with some of the photos from his official senior portrait shoot.

Kiernan’s Senior Photos – Sandpoint Photographer

Kiernan is an avid skier and wanted to wait until Schweitzer mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho was covered with snow before he had his senior photos taken.  We had a great day for photos with some good drama in the sky and such a great location overlooking lake Pend Orielle.

We started out with some poses with his skis the next two shots were the same pose from different directions but they are both processed a little bit differently in photoshop so I decided to include them both.

The location we were at had a great view of the valley and mountains but then when we turned around the other direction there was a rock cliff that when put out of focus made a nice natural backdrop.Senior Portraits taken in the snow on Schweitzer mountain Senior Portraits taken in the snow on Schweitzer mountain Senior Portraits taken in the snow on Schweitzer mountain

02/08/2013 – Lakeland at Sandpoint (Sandpoint Photographer)

Last night I was excited to set up my new remote “Glass Cam”, a remotely triggered camera installed on the back side of the basketball hoop and positioned to shoot through the glass backboard.   The glass of the backboard at Sandpoint High School is almost certainly the same one installed when the school was built over 20 years ago and it certainly shows it’s wear and tear with quite a few scratches but even with the very imperfect glass to shoot through I was able to get a handful of fun shots.  Here are some of the photos from the night for more photos from this game and the entire 2012-2013 season visit my website at this link: http://bit.ly/TmPJrS

02/09/2013 Coeur d’Alene at Sandpoint

Yesterday the Coeur d’Alene Vikings boys basketball teams traveled to Sandpoint to take on the bulldogs.   I once again set up my remote “glass cam” but I made a few adjustments.  I changed the positioning of the camera a bit and I set up two remotes on top of my camera, one to fire my strobes and another to fire the remote camera a fraction of a second later.  This gave me the opportunity to capture the same game play from two different angles at virtually the same time.  Here is a side by side example

Last night I traveled to Rathdrum to photograph the three basketball games between the Lakeland Hawks and Sandpoint Bulldogs.  I was able to cover the JV Girls and the Varsity girls and boys games played in the main gym.  For more photos from these games and the entire 2012-2013 season visit my website at this link: http://bit.ly/TmPJrS
