Marissa and Rhaelyn (Sandpoint Photographer)

A few days ago Marissa joked with me that the wait to see her photos was giving her an anxiety attack, a little sneak peek helped hold her over for a little while.  Now finally her wait is over, the editing is finished and the completed photos will upload tonight!  Here are a few more photos to hold her over until the morning.  You will see that she is not alone, we were also joined by her niece for a few photos as well.  If you want to see some more photos from this shoot see this link.

One more for fun.  Marissa has an interest in photography and she volunteered to help me out whenever my assistant Shea is not available.  So, I figured it would be good to give her a little job interview right on the spot.  Here is her resume, what do you think should I give her the job?

The Beach In Black and White (Sandpoint Photographer)

Over the Christmas and New Years break break my family and I have been near the coast in Northern California visiting family.  On the last day of our visit we had a bright ad sunny day to go and visit the beach together.   Of course I brought my camera!   After a short time at the beach I decided to give myself an assignment, that assignment was to use the harsh direct sun light to create some dramatic lighting for some black and white photos.  Here are a few of  my favorites from the day.

Here is the favorite of grandma Juju and great grandma Pat.  I was seeing spots for a while and had difficulty focusing (my eyes) after shooting a few into the sun, but it created a fun effect and some interesting lens flare.

Originally I was planning on focusing my black and white venture on landscapes, as you can see my focus shifted quickly to my kids!  But, none the less, here is one landscape photo to round out the post.

Becker Family (Bonners Ferry Photographer)

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to capture the wonderful Becker Family and the following is a sneak peak of the photos that have been prepared for them.

Let’s start off with the youngest member of the family:

Prior to this shoot this little gal had not figured out how to sit up on her own, what perfect timing for her to figure it out while I was there ready to capture the memory forever!  You might have already noticed this, but I love how the sun is poking through the trees in the top right corner of the barn.

This young man was not camera shy at all, so photogenic and so comfortable in front of the camera, I ended up taking way too many photos of him, but how could I resist!

Of course being a model is hard work for the kiddos and sometimes they just need to take a break and play with dad.  That does not mean it was break time for me, I would never want to miss an opportunity to capture fun photos like this one!

Thanks guys, it was sure fun to work with you and I look forward to showing you all the rest of your photos from our time together!

The Ice Cream Bribe

I went outside and found my son had gotten into my truck and had buckled himself in, he was convinced that it was time for Dad to take him on an adventure . . .   how could I say no.

When we pulled out of the driveway I suggested that we find a place where I could take his photo and try to capture the beauty of the eyes that he inherited from his mother (who has stunningly beautiful eyes!).  His response, no that sounds boring.  So we went to Arnie’s, the local convenience store. As we arrived I was informed that the store was not much fun, but we proceeded inside anyway.  I found myself a cold coffee drink and as I it on the counter I whispered to the clerk that I also wanted a small ice cream cone.

As we walked out of the store my son had no idea that in one hand I possessed that greatly coveted treat and he told me he was sad that I did not get him anything, when I presented him with the cone his eyes lit up, I then proceeded to bribe him . . . . . . an ice cream cone in trade for a photo session in the park while he eats it.  Funny how much he wanted me to take his picture after that!  Well, here are my favorites from our little ice cream session in the park!  I hope you enjoy them half as much as I did.

Family Circus

I posted a photo of this same genre on my facebook page and one of the fans commented that it reminded them of the cartoon “The Family Circus”.  I found that to be such a fitting description that I entitled this post the family circus and I think that this is how I will choose to refer to this particular genre of photographs.  As you can see I took this series of photos at the Hotel Charbonneau, located in Priest River, Idaho.  I personally find this genre to be a lot of fun, hope you enjoy it as well!  Click the photo for a larger view
