5A Championship – 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament

The Borah Lions repeated as state champion as they defeated the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies 47-44 in the 5A Divsion of the 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament. Junior and three year starter Isaiah Wright (22) led the Lions with 21 Points and Joe Nelson contributed 10. The Grizzlies leading scorer was Matt Grooms with 15 followed by Nate Bruneel with 11. The Russets from Shelley came to the Idaho Center to take on the Panthers from Snake River for the 3A championship in the 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament. It was a close and exciting game with Snake River coming out ahead 67-65. Jacoby Johnson was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 18 and Curtis Keller helped the cause with 12. The New Plymouth Pilgrims faced the Grangeville Bulldogs in the 2A Championship game at the 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament with Grangeville winning the match-up 47-32. Grangeville’s Derick Brown led all scorers with 14 and Michael Wilson added 7. New Plymouth’s leading scorers were Cody Hinson and Hunter wells who both scored 7. The 1AD1 Championship Game at the 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament featured the Kamiah Kubs and the Butte County Pirates. Butte County took home the championship trophy with a 58-45 victory. Leading the way for the Pirates was Tucker Farmer with 14 followed by Kyle Isham with 13 and Hayden Isham with 11. Kamaih’s top scorer was Matt Munch with 14 and Reed York and Kevin Hill contributed 11 points each. The Salmon River Savages and the Nezperce Indians faced off in 1AD2 Championship Game at the 2013 Idaho Boys State Basketball Tournament. Salmon River won the contest 66-51 with the help of Jimmy Shepherd and Leighton VanderEsch who both scored 21 points, VanderEsch also added 14 rebounds in the win. Buhl (76) vs. Timberlake (69)

Kade Crossland and Kasey Crossland each scored 23 for the Buhl Indians, Hayden Eckert added 12. Timberlake was led by Austin Allen with 17, Trevor Masterson with 14 and Johnny Hayden with 13

Sugar Salem (46) vs. Payette (30)

Beau Choffin scorred 11 and Ridge Spackman scorred 9 for the Diggers from Sugar Salem. Matt Bake was the leading scorer for the Pirates with 14 and Zane Allen added 8.

Snake River (50) vs. Fruitland (37)

Brad Coombs scored 12 and Adrian Casteneda had 10 as the Panthers earned a spot in the championship game. Fruitland’s Bryce Nattress scrored 16 and both Hagan Graves and Joel Van Patten scored 6.

Shelley (66) vs. Filer (52)

The Russets advanced to the championship game led by Tyler Fredrickson with 19, McKay Cannon with 14 and Chad Leckington with 10. Jed Oyler was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 12, Logan Beard scored 11 and Austin Beard added 10.

Rocky Mountain (61) vs. Lake City (33)

Matt Grooms was the high scorer for Rocky Mountain with 15 followed by EJ Boyce with 14 and John Sherle with 13. Chuckie Adams scored 8 and JJ Winger had 6 for Lake City.

Highland (57) vs. Capital (56)

High Scorers for Highland Rams were Austin Andreasen with 16, Ben Stephens with 14 and Stefan Gonzalez with 12. For the Golden Tarik Littlejohn with 11.

Borah (54) vs. Madison (43)

The Loins of Borah were led by Junior and three year starter Isaiah Wright with 21, Cody Spjute added 14 and Zak Studebaker 9. Lyle Sutton was the leading scorer for the Madison Bobcats with 18 followed by Stockton Berry with 14.

Mountain View (44) vs. Post Falls (34)

Mountain View’s Tanner Percifeld scored more than half of the Mavericks points with 24, Kody Olson pitched in 9 and Randal Robinson added 7. Nick Hall led the Trojans with 9, Max McCullough and Keaton Corr both scored 6.

09/15/2012 – 2012 Idaho Football Classic

The 2012 Idaho Football Classic hosted some great area teams against some strong competition from Washington and California. The first game pitted the Clarkston Bantams against te Huskies of Sutter Union High School. Game 2 featured the Bengals of Lewiston against Sequoia High School out of Redwood City, California. In the third game the Lake City Timberwolves took on the Bearcast of W.F. West High School out of Chehalis Washington. The final game of the night brought together the top rated team in Idaho in the Coeur d’Alene vikings who were looking to expand their 24 game winning streak to 25 and the top rated team in Washington, the Spartans of Skyline High School led by USC bound quarterback Max Browne. Idaho State Girls Basketball Tournament (Day 2)

I covered some very exciting games on Day 2 of the Idaho State Tournament for IdahoSports.com. The game between Carey and Summit Academy went into three overtime periods and the game between Timberlake and Snake River ended with only a 1 point difference after 2 overtime periods.
